The feelings of sadness and hopelessness always accompany any physical disorder. These feelings combined together are known as depression. The human brain consists of numerous neurons. Any disorder in any part of the body is reported to the brain first. When the brain receives the news of a medical condition, the neurons have a slight alter in their functioning. This leads to depression. According to recent studies the prevalence of depression in patients of certain disease is found to be ranging from 5% to more than 40%. However, the depression often remains unrecognized. For detecting it a proper diagnosing procedure is to be followed. A relation between the suffered disorder and the depression is to be established using a physiological mechanism. This mechanism probably involves the human immune system. The depression does not necessarily be caused due to the losses and pain of the disorder. It may also be caused because of the immune system being activated. There are a number of non-infectious diseases that also are associated with the chronic activation of immune system. The people suffering from these diseases are more prone to depression. As per the studies the immune dysregulation leads to depression. Illness associated depression is not always because of psychological reaction; rather it can be because of immune activation.

Depression due to hormone imbalance Hormones are the chemicals help the body to work properly. The hormones are involved in most of the biological processes of the body. Hence, if there is an imbalance in the secretion of the hormones, there may be a trouble for the person. Thus it may cause depression. The most depression causing hormones are testosterone in the males and the progesterone in the females. In the 21st century the women show a statistical lead in acquiring depression. An imbalance in the regulation of hormones may lower the level of progesterone. Progesterone does a number of important tasks in the body of a woman. It maintains the lining of the uterine. It even regulates normal sleep, blood clot, balance sugar levels, metabolism, and libido. Thus, disturbance in any of these tasks can lead to depression. The main task of progesterone is to promote reproduction. And a disturbance in this activity leads to less sex drive. This is the main cause of depression. Similarly in men testosterone is the hormone promoting reproduction. An imbalance in this hormone may lead to reduced sex drive in men. Thus they suffer from depression.
